Perryton ISD, and other Texas schools, are faced with a dilemma this year. Each year, parents complete the Free and Reduced Lunch application at the beginning of the school year. This helps to pay for their child’s meals at school throughout the year.
This year, in response to COVID-19, a USDA program has made breakfast and lunch free for all students. As a result, fewer parents filled out the form. What folks may not realize is that these forms determine State and Federal Funding for their school district for many other programs beyond free food.
Funds to help the district pay for extra teachers and materials for Specialized Instruction throughout the year are tied to the Free and Reduced Lunch Applications. Without these applications, Perryton ISD stands to lose funding it was counting on to cover these costs.
In addition, by filling out the application, families can qualify for a waiver for the cost of the ACT Test and for a reduced price on Advanced Placement tests.
Perryton ISD is asking our parents who have qualified for free & reduced lunches in the past and those who think they might qualify, to please complete this form as soon as possible. This will also help avoid delays in receiving free food at the beginning of the 2021-2022 school year.
Parents can complete the form online at this link (look for the “My School Apps” button) or visit your school’s office to complete the paper form. The application needs to be complete before December 18, 2020.
