Each year Perryton High School holds a program to honor our veterans. Even with COVID-19 restrictions, Perryton High School found a way to honor our veterans on Veterans Day. The 2020 version of the event had to be modified but was still a success.
Normally, the program is presented in the auditorium and the entire student body attends the event. This year, the event was held in the George Zoller Rangerette Center and only the veterans and those presenting the event were in attendance. Veterans were seated at tables spaced out to provide social distancing and were encouraged to wear masks.
Even though some of our local veterans were unable to attend, all of them were recognized individually for their service to the country. Marlon Sparks served as the host for the event and Charles McLarty read the names and service records of all local veterans.
The Perryton High School choir performed the service songs of each branch of the military and sang “In Flanders Field”. Guest speaker, Lonnie Bailey spoke of the sacrifices of veterans and the willingness of Americans to serve the country.
