PISD Board April Meeting

The Perryton ISD Board of Trustees met on Tuesday, April 19, for their monthly meeting. The meeting opened with Assistant Superintendent Dr. Maria Rocque sharing the names of the FCCLA students and their achievements at the state competition. Read details here. They also heard a report from Student Health Advisory Council President Carol Hayden.

The board then recessed into a closed session to discuss personnel and safety devices. Prior to the closed session, the board members were treated to a meal provided by the Culinary Arts class at Perryton High School. Mandy Morgan and her students prepared and served Chicken Alfredo along with desserts.

After a little over an hour in closed session, the board convened to hear reports from the campus administrators and directors. Coach Haberthur mentioned two college signings scheduled to happen on Wednesday morning. Zane Eylar will sign to play baseball at Seward County Community College, and Saleen Nyman will sign to join the powerlifting team at the University of Texas.

Technology Director Rodney Throgmorton reported on the new phone systems being installed. So far, they’ve been put in at PHS, PJH, Kinder, and part of Wright Elementary. The remaining buildings will be added soon.

During the curriculum and Instruction report, Dr. Roque turned the floor over to DeZarae Hernandez, Director of the Ranger Roundup Learning Center. Enrollment continues to be up, and they received two long-awaited background checks allowing two more staff members to join the team. They are almost at full staff. Also, later in the Financial report, CFO Britney Meraz reported that the RRLC had a profitable month in March, a very good sign.

The board voted to approve Additional State Aid for Ad Valorem Tax Credit for the Palo Duro Wind Project. This is an annual renewal to continue to receive benefits from the wind project.

Probationary, Dual Probationary and Non-Certified staff contracts were approved. See the list here. Also, SSA (Shared Services Agreement) Special Ed Staff were approved.

Finally, they approved the hiring of Erin Waters to a 1-Year Probationary, Certified Teacher Contract for the 2022-2023 school year for Science 1-8 or ELAR 4-8.

The next regular meeting of the school board will be Tuesday, May 17 at 6:00 pm in the PISD Administration Building. They anticipate a special meeting to canvass the May 7 election results and possibly another special meeting to hire additional staff.
