June 13, 2017: Tuesday’s PISD Board meeting began with Superintendent Robert Hall introduced Matt Birdwell, new Perryton High School Principal and Read Cates, new Williams Intermediate Principal.

Chief Financial Officer,  Doug Kile presented the proposed compensation plan for the upcoming school year.  As directed by the board last month, the plan included a $1000 a year raise for Teachers, a 25 cent an hour increase for manual trade employees and clerical/paraprofessionals and a $25 per month increase in the district’s contribution to employee health insurance.

Kile, along with Hall, informed the board that Governor Abbott has placed a $1000 a year raise for all teachers on the agenda for the upcoming special legislative session, but the cost of that raise will be borne by the school districts.   After much discussion the board authorized Kile to prepare a budget that includes a $1000 raise, but tabled final decision until the July board meeting to get more information on what may happen in Austin.

Board President, Monty Kinnard updated the board on the repairs to the high school auditorium.  The removal of chairs and asbestos abatement portion has begun and the district will take bids for the remainder of the project.

Hall announced the resignations of High School Assistant Principal, George Caine; Jr. High Assistant Principal, Brandon Douglas; Jr. High Counselor, Terry Read; Jr. High Band Director, Ryan Rosas; and teachers, Kelvin and Amber Farmer, Susan Francis and Ruth Schoenhals.

Communications Director, Darin Clark told the board that the new, updated website will launch the week of June 26 and Technology Director, Rodney Throgmorton told the board that the High School and Jr. High are ready for the new Chromebooks for Freshmen and 6th Graders.

The board voted to hire Krista Britton, Librarian for Williams Intermediate. Brad Allen was hired as a Teacher/Coach at Perryton High School. Samantha Walker was hired as a teacher at Williams Intermediate  and Nurses Connie Romjue and Melissa Underwood were hired for Kinder and Perryton Junior High.
